Conundrum Hike

Image

As I began my hike up Conundrum Valley all I could think of is how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. Surrounding by gorgeous scenery, the wildflowers, foliage and creek along the trail are absolutely stunning. From Castle Creek the trail is about eight and a half miles to the Conundrum hot springs. Not only are the hot springs an ideal rejuvenation, they are the highest natural hot springs in North America, 11,200 feet under the west face of Castle Peak. The beauty of soaking in the hot springs surrounded by stunning peaks nestled deep in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass wilderness area is an experience you’ll never forget.

Sitting at 14,265 feet, Castle Peak ranks the highest of the mountains in the Elk Range. Conundrum Peak is positioned next to Castle Creek at a staggering 14,060 feet. The hike up through the Conundrum Valley made me smile as I recognize the true meaning of Rocky Mountain High.

AVSC Welcomes Walt Evans

The Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club has named Walt Evans their Director of Excellence. Previously, Evans was the Sports Development Director for USSA and had been a member of the USSA staff for 30 years.

Evans helped engineer the National Development System during his time with the USSA. This program worked with the top clubs nationwide and provided elite training opportunities for rising Alpine racers. The program proved to be successful as it benefited U.S. Olympic skiers in Vancouver.

AVSC Executive Director Mark Cole shared his excitement about the news of Evans joining team AVSC.

“Walt is a proven professional and understands what’s necessary to sustain and enhance excellence in programs. With Development Director Barbara Frank focused on opportunity and all coaches emphasizing values, the addition of Walt means all areas of our mission will flourish.”-Mark Cole, Executive Director AVSC
